CEC: China’s manufacturing power consumption up year-on-year in Jan-June 2023


China Electricity Council (referred to as, CEC) released on July 20, 2023, January-June electricity consumption: January-June, the country’s 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of the whole society to achieve positive growth in electricity consumption; manufacturing industry electricity consumption year-on-year growth, of which high-tech and equipment manufacturing industry, electricity consumption growth is faster.

CLP said that from January to June, in addition to Guizhou and Hubei, other provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of the whole society to achieve positive growth in electricity consumption, there are 16 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of the whole society to achieve a growth rate of electricity consumption more than the national average, of which there are five provinces and regions with a growth rate of more than 10%, respectively: Hainan, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Guangxi and Tibet.

In June, 25 provinces realized positive growth in electricity consumption of the whole society, of which, the growth rate of more than 10% of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in the following order: Beijing, Guangdong, Inner Mongolia, Fujian, Jilin, Hainan and Tibet.

In addition, from January to June, the national industrial electricity consumption increased by 4.6% year-on-year, and the national manufacturing electricity consumption increased by 4.3% year-on-year. Among them, the electricity consumption of the four major high-energy-carrying industries increased by 2.5% year-on-year; the electricity consumption of high-technology and equipment manufacturing industries increased by 8.1% year-on-year; the electricity consumption of consumer goods manufacturing industries increased by 3.0% year-on-year; and the electricity consumption of other manufacturing industries increased by 8.1% year-on-year.

In June, national industrial electricity consumption increased by 2.4% year-on-year, and national manufacturing electricity consumption increased by 3.6% year-on-year. The average daily electricity consumption of the manufacturing industry was 12.70 billion kWh, an increase of 340 million kWh over the same period of the previous year and 440 million kWh over the previous month. Among them, electricity consumption in the four major high-energy-carrying industries declined by 0.1% year-on-year; electricity consumption in the high-technology and equipment manufacturing industries increased by 9.5% year-on-year; electricity consumption in the consumer goods manufacturing industry increased by 3.7% year-on-year; and electricity consumption in other manufacturing industries increased by 9.7% year-on-year.
