Egypt’s Daba NPP Unit 4 expected to receive construction license by end of 2023


Unit 4 of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt is expected to receive a construction license by the end of 2023, Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom’s general director, said in a statement issued on July 18, 2023, the company said. Construction of units 1 to 3 of the plant is progressing as planned.

According to information made public in Rosatom’s internal publication, the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) said that El Dabaa Unit 4 is expected to pour its first concrete in November 2023 to coincide with the country’s November 19 Atomic Energy Day.

The Daba nuclear power plant is proposed to be fitted with four Russian VVER-1200 units. The Egyptian government said it expects units 1 and 2 to meet 9 percent of the country’s electricity needs by 2030.
