World’s first ISO international standard for water conservation in the thermal power industry approved

On 20 June 2023, a new international standard proposal, ISO/TS 21152 Technical specification for treatment and reuse of circulating cooling water in thermal power plants, jointly led by Huadian Zhengzhou Machinery Design and Research Institute and Nanjing University, was approved. The new international standard ISO/TS 21152 Technical specification for treatment and reuse of circulating cooling water in thermal power plants (Chinese name: 《 thermal power plant circulating cooling water water conservation technical specification》) was formally approved and established. This standard is the world’s first international standard for water conservation in thermal power industry, and also the world’s first international standard for circulating water conservation. The establishment of this standard marks the further international recognition of circulating water conservation technology in China’s thermal power industry, and starts to lead the development of circulating water conservation in the global thermal power industry, which is of great significance to enhance the international influence of China’s thermal power industry. At the same time, Guo Xinru from Huadian Zhengzhou Machinery Design and Research Institute became the nominated expert of the Chinese delegation of the standard development project team.

In order to solve the international problem of water saving technology for circulating water in the thermal power industry, Guo Xinru took the lead in proposing specific process specification control requirements for water saving in circulating water in thermal power plants, based on the water saving standard for the power industry that he once edited, and chaired the development of this international standard.

The proposed standard provides technical specification requirements for different water saving processes for circulating water in thermal power plants, filling the gap in the international technical evaluation and technical specification for water saving in circulating water in thermal power plants. The widespread application of this specification for water saving in thermal power plants at home and abroad is of great practical significance in solving the problem of water saving in circulating water in thermal power plants and water scarcity worldwide.
