SSEN Transmission invests £10bn in Scottish transmission network

SSEN Transmission has announced a £10 billion investment in the North of Scotland’s transmission network under the Pathways to 2030 programme to facilitate the grid connection of up to 11GW of new offshore wind capacity.

SSE Transmission said the Pathway to 2030 programme aims to fund several new onshore reinforcements, subsea connections and other projects. According to SSEN Transmission, the projects are part of a wider upgrade of the UK’s transmission network to meet the UK and Scottish governments’ climate change and energy security targets.

The company’s new investment programme will contribute more than £6 billion in added value to the UK economy, which SSEN Transmission says includes some £2.5 billion in additional direct benefits in Scotland, citing a new analysis conducted by BiGGAR Economics.
